Billions of Things on the Internet
As far as the reach of the Internet of Things, there are more than 12 billion devices that can currently connect to the Internet, and researchers at IDC estimate that by 2020 there will be 26 times more connected things than people. I write about big data, analytics and enterprise performance and today I will be discussing about what exactly it is and what impact it will have in the future.
Internet of Things (IoT) revolves around increased machine-to-machine communication; it’s built on cloud computing and networks of data-gathering sensors; it’s mobile, virtual, and instantaneous connection; and it’s going to make everything in our lives from streetlights to seaports “smart.” Smartphones will become not only everyone’s portal into IoT ecosystem (look no further than smartphone-controlled light bulbs), but a complete remote control to your life (if it isn’t already).
For instance I love to de-stress myself with chocolates. And if I am not in a good mood, my smart band will immediately send this data to my fridge which in turn will tell me that there are chocolates that I can have to make myself feel better! Or knowing that Friday nights is the time of the week when I am in the happiest mood a smart home speaker would play some rock songs as soon as I enter my house. The thought of always being tracked and your data being recorded does bring a fear to a consumers mind, but we have to move away from it to see the benefits that this great technology is going to bring to us. Imagine how cost effective it will be when waste collection across millions of homes can be managed in this way. There will be lesser trucks on the roads, less pollution and an improved city management. Connected cars would know which way to take to avoid traffic, save fuel and your time. Better healthcare services, a connected shopping experience, smarter cities and an organized lifestyle.
Billions of Networked Objects– In the near future, billions of pieces of equipment will be connected to one another – everything from the yogurt container that reminds you to eat its contents, to the smart city, where data is collected and analyzed in real time so that traffic flows better, water is supplied more efficiently, and resources are used more economically.
It will allow companies to make smarter products – businesses will have the opportunity — and eventually, the imperative — to make “smarter,” more useful, more connected products.
IoT will make life easier – Internet of Things (IoT) shaping human life with greater connectivity and ultimate functionality, and all this is happening through ubiquitous networking to the Internet. There is seemingly no limit what can be connected to the Internet.
In short, we can summarize that Internet of Things (IoT) will be more personal and predictive. This will make life easy, comfortable and more efficient with the help of mobility and cloud. The Internet of Things (IoT) will merge the physical world and the virtual world to create a highly personalized and often predictive connected experience.
