Samsung s9 & s9 Plus: Complete Review

The race between Apple and Samsung to bag the title of the King of smartphones has been going on for like forever now.

I must say, Samsung with its new Galaxy flagship phone, is back on top beating the Apple’s latest flagship iPhone X a tad position behind.

Agreed it’s a little on the expensive side, But Galaxy s9 Plus is much more interesting and impressive as compared to s9.

Samsung s9 and s9 Plus are a lot similar to its predecessor, the s8 series.  Yet it is one of the best smartphones around as of now.  With its improvised performance, solid camera and extended battery life, the Galaxy s9 and s9 Plus continue to keep up with the reputation of the S series being incredible.

Before we get ahead, let’s take a look at what’s new this year:

Processor and Memory:

The New flagship comes with an improvised processor. The Galaxy S9 and s9 Plus both come with a new Exynos 8910 chip. It’s still an octal-core chip with four 1.7GHz efficiency cores but the faster four have jumped from 2.4- to 2.7GHz.

S9 has a capacity of 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 256GB  of internal storage along with a microSD card slot which can now take up to 400GB.

Techies would be pleased to hear that the S9 Plus has more memory and storage as compared to the S9 with 6/128GB. That’s an extra 50 percent in RAM and double the storage. We have seen a spec sheet with a 128GB model but this seems to be very elusive at best.

S9 plus is comparatively smoother in performance as compared to all the other smartphones presently available in the market.

Battery life:

Galaxy s9 series comes with an extended battery life. The Galaxy S9 has a 3000mAh battery, whereas the S9 Plus offers 3500mAh. S9 Plus is said to comfortably last a full day for an average user and lighter users might even get a day and a half out of it.

The Galaxy S9 offers fast charging via the USB-C port and with that too with wireless charging, So averagely, S9 charges from 0 to 36 percent in 30 minutes and less. That’s two percent more than the regular smartphone speed.

This year, major updates seem to revolve around the camera specifications.

S9 has a single camera; 12Mp with 1.4 micro m pixels and OIS. The highlight of the upgrade is its adjustable aperture which can automatically shift between f/2.4 and f/1.5 based on the condition of the shoot.

S9 Plus

The super dual Pixel rear camera of s9 Plus is the major game changer. Though it is also 12Mp, it comes with an innovative mechanical aperture dedicated to providing DSLR quality images.  It also comes with an additional telephoto lens which is great for taking closer shots without digital zooming.

The camera feature is user-friendly and comes with a variety of shoot modes. The shots are seen to be super crisp with perfectly detailed exposure.

S9 is said to have better low-light photography as compared to the other S series.

Screen and Sensor:

Not much of a change has been seen in terms of design and screen size. Samsung continues to stick to its bright (max 324cdm2) and colorful SuperAMOLED technology.

For s9, the screen size remains the same as its predecessor, s8 series- 5.8m display with A Quad HD Plus resolution (Full HD Plus is used by default but you can change it) means everything gets crispier than ever before.

S9 Plus, on the other hand, has an enlarged screen size of 6.2m. You also get the edge panels, which bring shortcuts to apps, contacts and far more by swiping in from the side.

The fingerprint sensor has been moved from the home button to a much more convenient location, below the camera. This reduces the stress one goes through when trying to unlock their phones. It also comes with improvised Intelligent Scanning technology, which means you can use it in combination with facial scanning.
